Recent Classic Cakes
Before custom cakes were elaborate and from-scratch, my grandmother made cakes for her small-town community in Britton, South Dakota. Many know her as "The Cake Lady" who ran Dorothy's Cakes. They were simple, joyful, and meant to celebrate — not impress Instagram.
Our Classic Cakes & Cupcakes are inspired by that tradition. These are intentionally limited designs made with trusted box mixes for faster turnaround, affordability, and nostalgia.

🎂 Classic Cakes
$60 flat (serves approximately 12-16)
Includes:
- Box cake mix
- Dorothy's vanilla buttercream frosting
- One frosting accent color
- Smooth finish with basic piping around the base and top
- Simple message (e.g., “Happy Birthday”)
- Traditional 9x13 Sheet Cake Style
Not available for Classic Cakes:
- Ombre designs
- Logos or images
- Characters or themed designs
- Specialty fillings or flavors
- Fresh fruit or premium ingredients
- Tiered, layered, or sculpted cakes
🧁 Classic Cupcakes
$28 per dozen
Includes:
- Box cake mix
- Dorothy's vanilla buttercream frosting
- One flavor per order
- Single-color swirl frosting
- Standard cupcake liners
- Packaged in a bakery cupcake box
Minimum order: 12 cupcakes
Orders may be placed in quantities divisible by 6 (12, 18, 24, etc.).
Not available for Classic Cupcakes:
- Filled cupcakes
- Two-tone or specialty piping
- Themed or character designs
- Custom toppers
📦 Ordering Notes
- Classic cakes and cupcakes are intentionally limited in design
- Pickup in Oak Grove, MN
- A minimum of 4 days’ notice is recommended
- A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to reserve your order
- Availability may be limited during busy seasons
Classic items are designed to be simple, affordable, and stress-free — for both you and us. Requests outside the Classic scope will be quoted as Custom orders.

What are Classic Cakes?
Classic cakes are simple, nostalgic designs inspired by the way my grandmother baked. They are made with trusted box mixes and have intentionally limited decoration.
How are Classic Cakes different from Custom Cakes?
Classic cakes focus on simplicity and affordability. Custom cakes are made entirely from scratch and allow for more detailed designs, specialty flavors, and decorative techniques.
Can I customize a Classic cake?
Classic cakes have fixed design limits and cannot be upgraded. Requests outside the Classic scope are quoted as Custom Cakes.
Why do you offer both?
Because not every celebration needs the same thing. Some moments call for a simple cake, others for something more detailed. Offering both allows us to serve our community thoughtfully.
Which option should I choose?
If you want something simple and nostalgic, Classic is a great fit. If you have a specific design or want from-scratch baking, Custom is the better choice.
